India runs on scooters. More than any car, the 110 cc petrol scooter is how families get to work, school and the market, and it is a large source of urban air pollution and oil imports.
Ferries are slow, thirsty and, for their passenger numbers, some of the dirtiest vehicles in public transport. In Stockholm they produced nearly half of the region's public transport emissions while carrying relatively few people.
The city bus is the workhorse of urban transport and, with its diesel engine idling at every stop, one of the most visible sources of street-level pollution. It is also the vehicle that has electrified fastest in Europe.
